FIB Bulletin - 58, Design of Anchorages in Concrete represents modern fastening technique for the transfer of concentrated loads into concrete and masonry structures. Cast-in-place anchors, placed in the formwork before casting of the concrete, and post-installed systems, which are installed in hardened structural concrete or masonry.
Loads are transferred into the concrete or masonry by mechanical interlock, friction, bond or a combination of these mechanisms. The load-transfer mechanism, all anchorages rely on the tensile strength of the concrete or masonry, a fact which must be taken into account in both assessment and design.
The following significant additions and revisions are incorporated in this document-
- new section on the design of bonded anchors and connections with post-installed reinforcing bars.
- a new section addressing the design of anchor channels.
- a new section on the design of anchorages for fire.
- a new section on the design of anchorages under earthquake loading.
- inclusion of detailed design provisions for anchorages subjected to fatigue loading.
- significantly improved design provisions for the critical case of shear-loaded anchorages close to edges.
- improved design provisions for combined tension and shear loading.
